If there is any hesitation on Cain's part, it may stem from the lack of offensive support he has received since officially joining the Giants in 2005. Matt Cain's record, especially the last two years, have directly reflected the lack of offensive support he receives. In fact, in 2011, statistically one of his best years in the majors, he compiled a 2.88 ERA gave up just nine home runs and struck out 179 batters in 221.2 innings. his record was 12-11. By comparison, Ian Kennedy of the Arizona Diamondbacks had an identical ERA of 2.88, gave up 19 home runs, and struck out 198 batters in 222.0 innings. his record was 21-4.
With the difference in their records being the amount of run support Kennedy received and Cain didn't. Kennedy received an average of 6.12 runs per game from his offense good enough for 36th in the entire league, while Cain received 4.63 runs per contest, good enough for 89th in the entire league. Oh, and Cain's teammate Tim Lincecum received a league worst 3.82 runs per game of support – the only qualifying pitcher to receive under four runs of support on average.
So if Cain is being hesitant on talks for that reason, I don't really blame him. on the other hand I know that Cain is very quiet about his dealings and could be working with the Giants on a deal right now ironing out the small details. or perhaps that is just me being hopeful that Cain won't go elsewhere after the 2012 season. In my opinion, if the Giants and Cain don't strike a deal by the time the season rolls around, then I don't see a deal getting done before the year is out. Here's to hoping the Giants and Cain are close to getting a deal done.

Growing up, Magic Johnson was his favorite basketball player and he fell in love with the team. He chalks it up to, "Not knowing any better".
